{"id":2882,"date":"2012-09-11T19:20:54","date_gmt":"2012-09-11T23:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.davidwalbert.com\/?p=2882"},"modified":"2012-09-11T19:20:54","modified_gmt":"2012-09-11T23:20:54","slug":"cheap-poetry-week-of-9412","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.davidwalbert.com\/dw\/2012\/09\/11\/cheap-poetry-week-of-9412\/","title":{"rendered":"Cheap poetry, September 4\u201311"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tomatoes wilt and poplars yellow<br \/>\nYet still the air is hot<br \/>\nThis isn&#8217;t autumn warm and mellow<br \/>\nBut hell, I think, we&#8217;ve got. <\/p>\n<p>A second thought occurs, as thoughts will do<br \/>\nHell wouldn&#8217;t have this much mildew.<\/p>\n<p>Autumn-clad, they gather<br \/>\nRound summer&#8217;s last blooms<br \/>\nDrinking its memory. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As evening descends, we scatter \/ with solitary purpose, in the same direction.<\/p>\n<p>In the time to compose<br \/>\na cheap little quatrain<br \/>\nabout threats the clouds pose:<br \/>\nBuckets of rain.<\/p>\n<p>Our minds stand stiff, like bristles<br \/>\nof a brush, to scrub away<br \/>\nreason.<\/p>\n<p>The weather service warns me direly, to wit:<br \/>\nThere might be a flood! Well, thanks. No &#038;#$@. <\/p>\n<p>Chickens strut and squabble<br \/>\nfor dominance, never seeing<br \/>\nthe shadow of the axe. <\/p>\n<p>When life pus obstacles in your way<br \/>\n&#8216;Tis not to make you weaker<br \/>\nBut to give you a story, so that you may<br \/>\nBecome a motivational speaker. <\/p>\n<p>Lollipop sentinels line the path<br \/>\nMelting from lime to cherry. <\/p>\n<p>Summer breaks like waves; the air<br \/>\nis crisp like apples green and fair.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure that your Prius gets pretty good mileage<br \/>\nBut a mule would eat nothing but green grass and silage. <\/p>\n<p>We listen, dumb, to the hum, chatter, beep<br \/>\nOf enough wire to garotte the world in its sleep. <\/p>\n<p>Sentences spray<br \/>\nlike gunpowder, or spittle.<br \/>\nBefore running your mouth, whittle. <\/p>\n<p style=\"font-style: italic;\">If you like cheap poetry, read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidwalbert.com\/2012\/09\/10\/cheap-poetry-a-manifesto\/\">explanation and manifesto<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomatoes wilt and poplars yellow Yet still the air is hot This isn&#8217;t autumn warm and mellow But hell, I think, we&#8217;ve got.
