Summer is a most untidy guest,
\nA vacation rental every landlord dreads:
\nCrumbs all over the floor, attracting pests,
\nInsects and mice of which we can’t be rid
\nWithout some icy extermination. Look
\nAt all this filth! This vile disgusting mixture
\nOf excrement and dirt in every nook.
\nCobwebs stringing sticky from the fixtures.
\nAnd the clutter! The crap he collects, like some fanatic–
\nPine cones, bird bones, leaves in piles ascend
\nLike unread magazines all stuffed in attics
\nOf trees. And at the season’s withered end
\nHe packs his bag, drives off, skips the scene,
\nLeaves no forwarding address. Expects the chill
\nWind and rain of autumn to sweep it clean.
\nI shouldn’t have to put up with this. Still–
\nWithout him, it’d be awfully quiet round here.
