If you&#8217;re new to this, read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newagrarian.com\/2012\/09\/10\/cheap-poetry-a-manifesto\/\">Cheap Poetry Manifesto<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">The decorations are put away in pieces and in bitses<br \/>\nbut the holiday ain&#8217;t over &#8217;til we eat the Christmas citrus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">Despite the ululations<br \/>\nof nine year-old relations<br \/>\nthat I know,<br \/>\nIt just won&#8217;t snow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">Through the office window I hear<br \/>\nA trill so fine and dandy<br \/>\nI know whene&#8217;er it greets my ear<br \/>\nThe birds are getting randy. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">Winter slogs through its dotage,<br \/>\nA king once crowned with lights and song, now watching somber<br \/>\nWhile the crowds cheer his heir.<\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">The daffodil does not believe in groundhogs<br \/>\nBut augurs distant spring with buttery hope.<br \/>\nThe goldfinch demurs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">O! Lachrymose the litterbox, whose fair<br \/>\nAnd pristine clay sits unadorned by pee.<br \/>\nThe cat would rather use my favorite chair<br \/>\nAnd leave it thus unsittable by me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">February drains away in muddy streams:<br \/>\nIs spring around the corner? In your dreams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">Understanding breaks like winter dawn, its light<br \/>\nDiffuse through clouds, broken by trees, visible only<br \/>\nIn patches struggling to unite.<\/p>\n<p class=\"poem\">Lilac paint peels<br \/>\nin great unfurling petals<br \/>\nfrom a concrete garden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a slow winter for poetry, but here&#8217;s the roundup.
